Summary

“Love has a sound。 It sounds like a thousand heartbeats happening at the same time。”

Princess Annika has lived a life of comfort—but no amount of luxuries can change the fact that her life isn’t her own to control。 The king, once her loving father, has gone cold, and Annika will soon be forced into a loveless marriage for political gain。

Miles away, small comforts are few and far between for Lennox。 He has devoted his life to the Dahrainian army, hoping to one day help them reclaim the throne that was stolen from them。 For Lennox, the idea of love is merely a distraction—nothing will stand in the way of fighting for his people。

But when love, against all odds, finds them both, they are bound by its call。 They can’t possibly be together—but the irresistible thrum of a thousand heartbeats won’t let them stay apart。

I am not the biggest fan of long books, but you will literally fly through this one。 It's so fast-paced and addicting, I could not put it down。 I honestly wish this was a series cause I loved the storyline and the characters <35/5 Stars :) 。。。more

Annika and Lennox are from two different countries that both want the same land。 Despite their differences, their paths cross and their lives become entwined in ways they couldn't have imagined。I really enjoyed this book。 It was a good balance of joy and sadness, and I felt like it had a solid portrayal of the responsibilities of royalty。 The romance was sweet (for several different couples) and it had some classic tropes that I enjoyed。 The book was a little predictable, partially because of th Annika and Lennox are from two different countries that both want the same land。 Despite their differences, their paths cross and their lives become entwined in ways they couldn't have imagined。I really enjoyed this book。 It was a good balance of joy and sadness, and I felt like it had a solid portrayal of the responsibilities of royalty。 The romance was sweet (for several different couples) and it had some classic tropes that I enjoyed。 The book was a little predictable, partially because of those tropes, but that doesn't make it less of a fun read。 I always look forward to what Kiera Cass writes。 。。。more

**4。5 OUT OF 5 Stars**A THOUSAND HEARTBEATS by Kiera Cass is a YA fantasy novel told in dual POV from Annika, a princess grappling with a fractured family and obligations to the crown, and Lennox, a young warrior, brutal with his sword and friendless because of it。 Seemingly, they are worlds apart, but when their paths do cross, what gets set into motion cannot be undone。 Now, Annika must figure out how best to protect her country while keeping what’s left of her family together, and Lennox need **4。5 OUT OF 5 Stars**A THOUSAND HEARTBEATS by Kiera Cass is a YA fantasy novel told in dual POV from Annika, a princess grappling with a fractured family and obligations to the crown, and Lennox, a young warrior, brutal with his sword and friendless because of it。 Seemingly, they are worlds apart, but when their paths do cross, what gets set into motion cannot be undone。 Now, Annika must figure out how best to protect her country while keeping what’s left of her family together, and Lennox needs to decide when he’ll step forward to take what’s rightfully his。 With so many wanting different things from these two, the most difficult question they’ll face is: does one of them have to die for the other to succeed?I loved this book。 It was everything I want in a fantasy novel: court intrigue, betrayal, forbidden romance, and more。 I was absolutely swept up in it! For me, how much I enjoy the story is always proportional to how much I care about the characters, and in this case, I connected with Annika and Lenox deeply。 Both of them are incredibly dynamic, with a soft side and a side you wouldn’t want to cross。 I also like Annika’s brother and how supportive he is—their relationship as siblings is really sweet— and Inigo, Lennox’s teammate。 Inigo has a big arc as he eventually becomes one of the most loyal people Lennox knows。 That being said, there are a handful of characters who are wishy-washy, which was probably purposeful, but it was also confusing at times and made it tougher to switch allegiances or to decide who to root for。The book is on the longer side as the story is a slow build。 While I was waiting for action, or what felt like the inciting incident, it did make me appreciate more how the norm changes over the course of the story。 The resolution, in contrast, is very quick, but by the time I got to the ending, I was so invested in the story at that point that I would’ve been okay with another hundred pages。 Even more preferably, I would’ve been thrilled if the author forewent the epilogue altogether and instead gave us a second book! Honestly, this world is so rich that there’s so much still to explore。All in all, A THOUSAND HEARTBEATS may just be the best star-crossed lovers' tale since Romeo and Juliet。 Anyone who loves enemies-to-lovers should add this book to their TBR。Review originally posted here: https://www。yabookscentral。com/a-thou。。。 。。。more

I received a galley of this book through Netgalley in exchange of an honest review。DNF @ 18% - I don’t like DNF’ing this early on。 However, this was just getting mind numbing already。 The writing is just WAY too simple。 The transitions between scenes are horrible。 I have 0 connection to any of these characters and can barely even keep the two perspectives apart。 Absolutely nothing has happened yet and I just can’t do it anymore even though I’m not even that far in yet。 I’m sorry。

First of all, short chapters for the win! This was a longer book, but it didn’t feel like it at all。 I couldn’t believe how fast I read this。 It was so easily bingeable。 Cheesy at times? Yes。 But that’s young love and I am here for it。 This book just made me feel all sorts of ooey gooey goodness! Annika and Lennox were so well matched despite coming from completely different backgrounds。 I loved all the ways they were connected and how some of these connections created great conflict。 Why is getting stuck in a cave with your enemy becoming one of my favorite things ever?! While this was a swoony love story, there was also a lot of things our MCs had to overcome。 Forgiveness was constantly woven through this story and the way it was addressed really showcased how powerful true forgiveness can be。 I also really loved Annika’s relationship with her brother Escalus; it was so sweet! His side story was the perfect balance to all the turmoil and loss。 Lennox was a lone wolf so I really enjoyed the friendships he created and the leadership that came to him so effortlessly。 His love for and protection of Annika slayed me in the best way。 This story truly has it all — amazing sword practice/fights, betrayal, heroic characters, royal intrigue, epic romance, and lots of twists! This book was absolutely THRILLING!Since I am a sucker for romance, I'll start there。 The dynamic between Annika and Lennox was so refreshing。 They completely embodied the enemies-to-lovers and forbidden romance tropes - going from trying to kill each other to keeping no secrets from each other (with a love and devotion that was very apparent) while also contending with being on opposite sides of a war/land feud。 They also both had tough-as-nails personalities with a soft underbelly and were loy This book was absolutely THRILLING!Since I am a sucker for romance, I'll start there。 The dynamic between Annika and Lennox was so refreshing。 They completely embodied the enemies-to-lovers and forbidden romance tropes - going from trying to kill each other to keeping no secrets from each other (with a love and devotion that was very apparent) while also contending with being on opposite sides of a war/land feud。 They also both had tough-as-nails personalities with a soft underbelly and were loyal and loving to a fault。。。so well developed! My only complaint, and the reason this did not get a 5 star from me, is that there was an instalove aspect where they were enemies and then it's like a flip switched in a matter of a day and then, LOVE! They were in an intense situation, fine, and developed a significant amount of intimacy in a short period of time, but using the word love so soon, not a fan。 It was also disappointing not to have more development here because it felt like their relationship was not a central piece of the story but more of an aside。 That being said, I still really liked them as a couple so it didn't ruin the book for me。The story itself was for the most part absolutely gripping (I only felt the pace was a little slow around the 1/3rd mark and then it picked up for the rest of the book), and so many really unexpected plot twists! It was also exceptionally well written, with so many lines that I just loved。 It gave me similar feels to Jennifer L。 Armentrout's work (with a more YA plot), and that is saying something because I am a huge JLA fan! This was my first Kiera Cass book and after reading this I will definitely be coming back for more from her!A big thank you to HarperCollins Publishing and Edelweiss for providing me with an ARC of this book。 My review is given voluntarily。 。。。more

I struggled with this book initially。 I had little patience for the banter between the protagonists, and the constant pov switches got on my nerves。 That said, it still kept my attention, and I pushed through because I figured it was more a me issue than the book's issue, and I'm glad I carried on。 Things started picking up in the book's second half, and I began to enjoy the world more, although it could have used a bit more world-building。 As a fan of The Selection Series, I was excited to read I struggled with this book initially。 I had little patience for the banter between the protagonists, and the constant pov switches got on my nerves。 That said, it still kept my attention, and I pushed through because I figured it was more a me issue than the book's issue, and I'm glad I carried on。 Things started picking up in the book's second half, and I began to enjoy the world more, although it could have used a bit more world-building。 As a fan of The Selection Series, I was excited to read this novel by Cass, but I confess I'm slightly disappointed。 The pacing was good。 The character development was okay, and the plot was entertaining, but overall the writing fell a bit flat in places, and sometimes it was difficult to keep track of who was speaking and whose current pov in the later chapters。 Additionally, it seemed like some of the characters took a sudden turn toward the novel's end that could have been foreshadowed more。 But overall, the book was an okay read, and I enjoyed it。 。。。more

It was disaster。 In two installments。 All I could take from them, is that the author is not good at focusing her books on politics。 She's a romance writer, not a strategist。 And as much as I love all the other of her stories, I was still too wounded to not come to this book full of scepticism。 And what a surprise, in my opinion this is Kiera's redemption for Betrothed series, on how it should've been written。 Of course story's not exactly the same, characters differ, BUT the tropes are very much the same, so I'll stick to my statement as it's opinion of my own which I'm allowed to have。 Your's different? That's great, I'm just stating mine。I don't want this 'review' to be spoilery, so you can read it when you're deciding whether to read this book, as you might've had same concerns as me coming from Betrothed。 And my solution for you is yes, you should。 Because even with author's idea of plotting a story based on politics is still quite poor, the romance was there, and it didn't hurt to read it。Annika, the female lead is a fierce princess, you could see America through her acts of kindness, and devotion to what she holds dear。 Thou she wasn't exactly the same which I do appreciate, because if I'd want to read another book of America's I'd pray for another Selection novella (which I hope we do get after netflix adaptation, and people noticing they can still earn some money from Selection universe stories), I did find her much more enjoyable than Hollis。 I loved her connection to her older brother Escalus, the relationship she had with her maid Noemi (I think I remember Kiera some years ago doing surveys on twitter for all their names or something 😂👍 that's why they all sound so extraordinary (thou I do have a distant cousin called Noemi myself 😎)) — very America like, right? Good。 First attempt for redemption — making a main lead we do care about, and one we want to pat on ones shoulder rather than shut behind a windowless room determined to finish story without her。 On the other hand we have Lennox, male lead, devoted to his fox friend and people he's leading because a new lover of her mom said they deserve a kingdom to take。 Although it doesn't exist on the cards of the history books (see? My only problem again is basing another book around politics when it's still not your good side。 And it ultimately breaks my heart, as I LOVED the rebellion act in the selection series 🥲 see how fast the night changes)。 Anyway, Lennox has his group of friends (I know the author squeezed two books of length into one, but I think it could be better if she kept introducing new characters with time, not throwing a ton of them (with very unique names) at us at once right from the very beginning 🙈) and they run errands, preparing to take back assumingly their kingdom。 That's their story。 Wow。They cross paths at pretty random moment, and since then (or way earlier 😏) their fates are forever intertwined。 As I've mentioned I don't want to spoil you the story, as my intention is to get you to read this book anyway。 My point is, if you've read betrothed — be prepared to see a lot of recurring motives。 Some executed better, some without improvement, but definitely they won't make your eyes burn out of cringe。Yes the romance was nice, it's just as much as you'd like to dissolve in the beauty of it, you can almost feel an urge to get characters attention and remind them they should currently get their focus back on politics, not being lovey dovey。 So IF ONLY the main focus of the story wouldn't be on merging the world together from a battle between clans building it you'd be enjoying their love much more。 But there are a lot of beautiful quotes to save, if that's what you're there for 😌This part is a teeeeny tiny bit spoilerish, so if you want to avoid any please skip to the last part ahead with my final thoughts。 To avoid anyone accidently glancing anyway, I'll just give you hints on what to expect: Prince Hans of Disney Frozen, Romeo&Juliet but they love their people more, you might think the traitor is obvious but actually they aren't (so now I want to reread just to see where the hell were the hints thrown all along xD), Audrey from Descendants plotting her whole life with a guy that ain't even considering her a competitor to his heart, no mass murd*r wedding copy pasted from Betrothed thank God, although, when it comes to politics, for the author wedding is the solution to every problem once again。 AHH, I was expecting something more innovative 🥲 I did say this is a betrothed remake, so I don't find it a spoiler if you did read that series too 🙆🏻‍♀️FINAL THOUGHTSI'm still not over the fact we might be getting no more novels from Kiera, but this at least acts like a redemption for the eyerolls and head pain I got from her last series。 Yes, it still stands nowhere near selection, but I can't expect anything to beat something so full of nostalgia and princess romance for me so easily, so I'm just glad Kiera did write more novels after it — because if you don't want to, you don't need to read them。 But if we did want to read more from her, we got a chance to see to that。 I did have fun with Annika and Lennox, but I'd have more if someone else took care of politics, and I could just follow along how they talk about stars and granola bars。 4⭐ from me, one day I'll tell my kids betrothed never existed and this was the real story of Hollis's alter ego。 。。。more

This book is 550+ pages told in duel POV。 You can literally get rid of half the book。 60 pages are spent with them just stuck in a cave。 Every character is unlikeable accept Annika and an animal that dies。

A Thousand Heartbeats is told from two POVs。 Princess Annika lives in the kingdom of Kadier while Prince Lennox lives in the rival kingdom where he is the most feared Dahrainian soldier。 Annika is the seemingly “fluffy” type of princess who has more going on than meets the eye while Lennox is the tough killer who has a hidden softer side。 When Annika is on her engagement tour with her arranged fiancé, Nickolas, she is captured and held hostage。 The group that captured Annika is led by Lennox and A Thousand Heartbeats is told from two POVs。 Princess Annika lives in the kingdom of Kadier while Prince Lennox lives in the rival kingdom where he is the most feared Dahrainian soldier。 Annika is the seemingly “fluffy” type of princess who has more going on than meets the eye while Lennox is the tough killer who has a hidden softer side。 When Annika is on her engagement tour with her arranged fiancé, Nickolas, she is captured and held hostage。 The group that captured Annika is led by Lennox and the two of them get to know each other and about the secrets of their kingdoms and how their histories intertwine。As Annika wanted to marry for love but is forced into an arranged marriage for the sake of the kingdom, she has a lot to deal with internally with her feelings。 On the other hand, Lennox has a complex family life where he has a moral greyness to him。 He is colder based on this past, but he sometimes dreams of escaping it。 While it was easier to see Annika’s true self early on, Lennox was a mystery as he was constantly a contradiction。 Slowly his real personality came together for the reader, although I would have preferred a few more pieces sooner to better connect with his character。The pacing of the story is slow at the start as the politics and characters are introduced。 Once Lennox and Annika meet, the story does pick up, although it does build up a lot to an ending that seems too rushed。 There are some elements described in tons of detail and others that seem glossed over, so I wish these elements were more balanced。 Additionally, Annika and Lennox have different personalities yet there were times when their chapters read like the same person。 Since I knew the dual POV pattern through context, I think a little more distinction would be nicer in the writing。 This slight confusion happened with the ages of the characters, as I was not quite sure where to place them as sometimes they read older and sometimes they read a lot younger。 For me, I would have preferred a little more clarity to make my reading experience a little more seamless。As Kiera Cass’s Selection series (mainly the first three) is beloved by many fans, they hold out hope that her other writing will stack up, myself included。 This is a very difficult task to accomplish for Cass as nothing, so far has quite gotten to the same level。 While this one, unfortunately, did not match, it was still difficult to put down and was an enjoyable read。 The ARC version has a space for a map, so I cannot wait to see what the final version looks like as I love maps in stories。 This may be a very long story yet it does go by quickly。 Overall, this was a sweet enemies to lovers story and I cannot wait to read more by Cass。**I give a special thank you to Netgalley and the publisher, HarperCollins Children’s Books, HarperTeen, for the opportunity to read this enjoyable novel。 The opinions expressed in this review are completely my own。** 。。。more

As a huge fan of the Selection series and this author, I would read absolutely anything and everything this author writes。 This book may have started a little slow, but it was well worth the buildup。 I loved the characters, the side characters, the story, just everything was gorgeously done! I really enjoyed getting to know the characters and how they grew in the story。 It was enjoyable to see what they portrayed for others to see of themselves, but how they really felt was different。 I thought As a huge fan of the Selection series and this author, I would read absolutely anything and everything this author writes。 This book may have started a little slow, but it was well worth the buildup。 I loved the characters, the side characters, the story, just everything was gorgeously done! And the cover art alone is just breathtaking。 This book was longer than the others this author has done, but it was so enjoyable and would highly recommend! I'm so glad I've already pre-ordered this book and can't wait to read it again! Thanks to NetGalley & Edelweiss for the ARCs! 。。。more

First, isn't the cover pretty? I love it。Second, I finished this book yesterday and I'm still thinking about it。 I'm thinking about both Annika and Lennox and their personalities and history。 From every angle。 Because Annika is SO forgiving。 I looked at it from a mother's standpoint。 From a woman's standpoint。 From a daughter's standpoint。 Is it all believable? My conclusion is that yes, with a bit of a stretch, yes。 There aren't many people who can forgive and offer kindness and mercy like Anni First, isn't the cover pretty? Of course, after Annika and Lennox meet, things really pick up and intensify。 There is a lot going on。 I liked the mystery, the action, the thought behind all of the characters and their motives。 The ending was so exciting! I'm guilty of reading way too fast。The bottom line is that any book that still has me thinking about it well after I've finished it, deserves the credit for filling that brain space。 I had feelings and emotions regarding the characters and what was happening。 I was equally happy and sad when the story ended。 I loved that I got a whole story, all wrapped up at the end。 No cliffhangers。 This book is a stand alone and that made me happy。This book releases on November 29th。Content: violence, peril, death。 Kissing。- I received a complimentary copy of this book。 All opinions expressed are my own。 。。。more

A breathtaking story and journey of star-crossed lovers with the feel of a fairytale! The beginning seemed slow to me, but it was a building of the world and characters and soon I was fascinated and couldn't put it down。 Love to the sound of a thousand heartbeats and many secrets unfold thru the pages。 I loved the perfect ending, and I could not turn the pages fast enough。 A breathtaking story and journey of star-crossed lovers with the feel of a fairytale! I was so excited to have been able to read an advanced readers copy! I will no include any spoilers once it has not been released yet。 Kiera Cass is one of my favorite authors and this cover by itself drew me in。 This story is a tale of forbidden love between two leaders。 For the first 50 pages or so, I was not immediately drawn in。 However, events started taking place and it sucked me in a bit。 I was intrigued by the main characters and how they were even connected。 Kiera does a great way of co I was so excited to have been able to read an advanced readers copy! I appreciate this standalone love story since it defied expectations for me。 。。。more

Enemies to lovers with different social status' meets heroic fantasy theme sounds like it could be a winner。 The story is told in dual POV, The characterization was really good。 Both of the main characters are pretty well described and thought out, Lennox was more enjoyable for me personally。 He has that snarky, brutish attitude with sarcasm and sass。 Both of the main characters suffer from dysfunctional family issues, resentments, wanting the best for their country, and they both have the attit Enemies to lovers with different social status' meets heroic fantasy theme sounds like it could be a winner。 The story is told in dual POV, The characterization was really good。 Both of the main characters are pretty well described and thought out, Lennox was more enjoyable for me personally。 He has that snarky, brutish attitude with sarcasm and sass。 Both of the main characters suffer from dysfunctional family issues, resentments, wanting the best for their country, and they both have the attitude they will sacrifice anything for their countries。Kiera Cass loves to tell the same type of story - it's like her MO。 She loves and enemies to lovers story, with different social status', throw a love triangle in there - and one has to be royalty。 All that being said she had a lot of success with The Selection series, and hadn't really seen much success in any of her books in the past few years。 I'm sure it has been a difficult road for her, as all the other books she has written are constantly compared to The Selection, and it seems like a high mark to hit。 I think others, along with myself, kept reading her books because there is something about her stories she does really well and we were hoping to see it again。 I think ultimately this book is a good read, and if you are hoping to find a book that will take you back to when you read The Selection series, this might do it for you。Thanks to #Netgalley for an advance reader copy of this book。 #AThousandHeartbeats 。。。more

Annika is the princess of Kadier, second in line to the throne, and is being forced by her father to marry Duke Nikolas to unite the country。 Lennox is a soldier, living in a falling down castle, with a band of outcasts and outlaws hoping to return to the land stolen from them many generations before。 When Lennox kidnapped Annika I was really concerned about how this was going to turn into a romantic relationship without being some kind of captor/captive fantasy。 I should just have trusted Kiera Annika is the princess of Kadier, second in line to the throne, and is being forced by her father to marry Duke Nikolas to unite the country。 Lennox is a soldier, living in a falling down castle, with a band of outcasts and outlaws hoping to return to the land stolen from them many generations before。 When Lennox kidnapped Annika I was really concerned about how this was going to turn into a romantic relationship without being some kind of captor/captive fantasy。 I should just have trusted Kiera Cass。 Without giving away any spoilers, I will say that the romance makes sense。 In addition to the romance there are thought provoking ideas about who is in charge of maintaining history and who is written out of it。 Recommended for grades 8 & up。(Note: This isn't fantasy because there is no magic, but it's also not historical fiction because the countries are made up。 So I'm just calling it Romance, but it's not in the current day or the current world。)eARC provided by publisher via Edelweiss 。。。more
